As I ventured through the enchanting landscapes of France, my camera in hand, I stumbled upon a hidden gem nestled along the Emerald Coast – the picturesque town of St. Malo. Known for its rich history, breathtaking beaches, and fortified walls, St. Malo provided an abundance of photographic opportunities that stirred my creative spirit.

As the sun began to rise, casting a warm golden hue over the ancient stone walls, I found myself irresistibly drawn to the town’s historic architecture. The formidable granite fortifications that once shielded St. Malo from marauding invaders now stood as silent witnesses to centuries of maritime history. The interplay of light and shadow on these stately walls provided the perfect canvas for capturing a sense of timelessness.

Meandering through the cobblestone streets, my camera lens captured the charming essence of the town. Quaint cafes and bustling markets added life to the scene as locals went about their daily routines. The intoxicating aroma of freshly baked croissants mingled with the salty sea breeze, enticing my senses while offering a glimpse of the region’s culinary delights.

As the day progressed, I made my way to the Plage de l’Éventail, one of St. Malo’s exquisite beaches. The rhythmic crashing of waves against the rocky shores presented a mesmerising spectacle. I sought to capture the dynamic energy of the ocean, composing shots that highlighted the contrast between the asure waters and the ancient stone walls that embraced the coastline.

The allure of St. Malo’s maritime heritage beckoned me towards its bustling harbour. Fishing boats swayed gently in the waters, and the scent of the sea lingered in the air. Against a backdrop of cerulean skies, I framed images that told stories of the town’s seafaring past and the enduring relationship between the locals and the sea.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky with hues of pink and orange, I returned to the fortified walls to capture the essence of the town’s twilight ambience. The soft glow of lanterns cast a romantic aura upon the narrow streets, infusing St. Malo with an ethereal charm that evoked feelings of nostalgia and wonder.

My encounter with St. Malo through the lens of my camera was an unforgettable experience. Each photograph became a cherished memory, capturing not only the town’s beauty but also the essence of its history and culture. This charming French town had opened its heart to me, and with gratitude, I immortalised its splendour, hoping to share the magic of St. Malo with the world through my lens.

What do past attendees say about Mark and his events?

“My 21-year-old daughter and I recently joined a Photowalk with Mark, at Valley of Rocks. It was a very enjoyable and educational experience. There were just two others, so a total of 5 in our group. Mark provided a comfortable environment for discussing the art and science of photography. He emphasized how personal photography can be and the importance of focusing on what we find compelling. He also provided instruction on the mechanics of a good photo as to structure, camera settings and other details. He was patient, very knowledgeable and clearly loves what he does. Thanks, Mark!”

Lisa, USA

“I was looking for someone to help me understand my canon camera whilst on holiday in Minehead. I am so glad that I booked a one-to-one day out with Mark. I can’t say enough about how professional Mark is & how wonderful our day out together was. Mark instantly put me at ease and nothing was too much trouble for him to explain. Mark does this in a way that you can easily relate to in day to day scenarios. I have since joined Mark‘s Lightroom Monday group and now enjoy learning all about post production of my images.”

Joan, Middlesex

“After having owned my Nikon DSLR camera for many years and never having taken it off Auto, I decided to join Mark on one of his Full Day Camera courses. He took me through the basics and encouraged me throughout the day, by adding new skills at varying locations. By the time we had finished, I felt confident to continue learning and practising my new skills. A great day for those who need to better understand their camera. Thanks Mark.”

”We had some lovely days with sun, clouds, rain and wind. Today an Exmoor photographer showed us some beautiful places on Exmoor. Thank you Mark Stothard for taking us the whole day out and giving us a lot of tips ?”

Elma, Facebook, NL

“Mark’s passion for his art of photography, comes through in the warmth and professionalism he shows in all his workshops. He makes you feel welcome, relaxed and nothing is too much trouble! He simplifies instructions so that we can all understand. We all come away feeling greatly inspired and with new knowledge to become better photographers ourselves. His variety of workshops shows his broad knowledge. I particularly enjoyed the trip out onto Exmoor to photograph ponies and Highland cattle, where his enthusiasm is evident. The ambience of the smaller groups, where everyone is friendly and Mark inspires us to help each other, as well as sharing his tips and knowledge with us. I would thoroughly recommend attending any of his workshops.”
